Today, the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety handed its special report on the COVID-19 pandemic in the sector to the Governor General.
The Royal Commission has indicated the special report will contain ‘specific recommendations from the Commissioners to expedite and facilitate the implementation of comprehensive measures to protect older Australians’.
The Government’s lack of action to protect those in aged care from this pandemic can no longer continue. The Health Services Union (HSU), on behalf of all its members working tirelessly to protect the wellbeing of older Australians and our communities, is calling on the Morrison Government to ensure the report is tabled and made publicly available without delay.
All quotes are attributable to Health Services Union National Secretary, Lloyd Williams:
“The HSU eagerly awaits this report and on behalf of every older Australian, their loved ones, and all aged care workers, we call on the Federal Government to table this report at the earliest opportunity.”
“We’ve seen inaction and delayed responses from the Federal Government in aged care, with catastrophic consequences.”
“We need to see this report and its recommendations, and we need to see the Federal Government respond quickly to address the aged care crisis in this country.”
