WorkChoices Threatens Health Workers’ Safety – Union OHS Training Critical

This is a presentation highlighting the current threats to health workers health and safety as a consequence of WorkChoices legislation, and the OHS training services offered by the HSU and the ACTU to mitigate these impacts. One of the most heinous aspects of the WorkChoices legislation is to make it harder for workers to access Occupational Health and Safety Training.

Trade Unions have been the bedrock of ensuring that workers have a legitimate role in ensuring their workplace is safe. In the face of tougher legislation the HSU and the ACTU continue to tailor OHS training to ensure workers and can access it and do their best to keep themselves and their colleagues SAFE AT WORK.

The HSU and ACTU OHS Training has the following additional advantages:

Maximising Economies of Scale and Scope - Collective use of resources to maximise efficiencies and effectiveness

Flexible Delivery: Facilitate learning at the same time as working full time and/or shiftwork. Supporting workers and employers to undertake training

Maximising Existing Knowledge: Recognition of prior learning and cross industry and geographical learning:

Supporting Good Employers: Developing and delivering training options to all employees and managers, where employers recognise the benefits
