Discussion Paper on the Ethical Recruitment of Overseas Trained Health WorkersGeneral Date: August 2007 This discussion paper contains information for the promotion of discussion on policies and strategies to improve Australia's ethical recruitment and employment of overseas trained health workers. The HSU is receiving an increasing number of complains and concerns about the employment of overseas trained health workers whose rights are not being protected. Under WorkChoices and the current federal government immigration policies, reduced protections for overseas trained health workers are more severely impacting on workers from less developed countries. Internationally there is growing emphasis on the need for developed and prosperous countries, like Australia, to improve their supply and retention of domestic health workers and ensure the ethical treatment of overseas trained health workers. This paper outlines the major international initiatives being undertaken to promote this outcome. Download File: |
