Administrator appointed to the HSU Victoria Branch

03 September 2009

On the 4th August 2009, the Federal Court issued a declaration that the Victorian No. 1 Branch of the Health Services Union had ceased to function effectively and in response appointed Mr. John Vines OAM as the Administrator of the HSU Victoria (Vic Number 1) Branch effective from Monday 17 August 2009. Vines was previously the CEO of the Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers, Australia (APESMA).

The Court also directed the HSU National Executive to request that Fair Work Australia arrange for the conduct an election of all offices of the Branch.

John Vines shall remain as the Administrator until the declaration of the results of the elections.

Mr Vines' appointment will see him effectively replacing all of the branch's office bearers. He will be responsible for the day to day running of the Branch. Mr Vines' charter is to administer the Branch in a non-partisan way, ensuring that the resources of the Number 1 Branch, are not used for campaigning and that employees do not electioneer during work hours.

This is a positive result for members that will see a measure of stability returning to the branch until the election is concluded and the new leadership is elected later this year.
