Health Union Gives Thumbs Up to Medicare Gold
The Health Services Union National Secretary, Craig Thomson said "the commitment that a Federal Labor Government will take full responsibility for the hospital costs of Australians aged 75 and over is a major breakthrough in improving quality healthcare".
Mr Thomson went on to say "this will immediately ease pressure on our public hospital system by reducing hospital waiting lists and by increasing public hospital funding to improve services."
Mr Thomson said "this system provides a much more efficient and effective use of both the public hospital and private hospital systems."
"By having a national dental programme providing an extra 1.3 million dental treatments for aged pensioners and health card holders this will without doubt clear the existing backlog".
Mr Thomson said "Medicare Gold would finally put an end to the cost shifting that has been the very essence of the current Federal Government's approach to healthcare".
"The HSU is urging people to Put Health First by making sure they use their vote to help improve the health system. Australians deserve the best health services possible and the HSU is prepared to support whichever party is committed to achieving this".
"We look forward with interest to hearing more details on the Aged Care Policy as they are announced" said Mr Thomson
