HSU To Push for Jobs and Care Guarantees October 21 2003The Health Services Union will push for long term guarantees on job security and care levels with the consortium that has purchased the Mayne group of hospitals. The sale of the hospitals was announced today by the company with an agreement that provides for all employees to be re-employed on terms and conditions no less favourable than their current ones. HSU National Secretary Craig Thomson said he would be seeking a meeting as early as possible with the consortium which includes Ironbridge CPL, CVC Asia Pacific, GIC Special Investments and Mayne's Hospital Management. "The HSU has worked hard with the management at Mayne to ensure that the terms and conditions of staff will not be undercut," Mr Thomson said. "But we want to get some further assurances that in the long term the jobs and conditions of HSU members will be protected and that services and the care provided will stay at a high standard,'' he said. "Members in Mayne Hospitals are proud of the work they do and they don't want to see any reduction in the standards of clinical care, of cleanliness and of services." The HSU, which covers staff in the affected hospitals in NSW, Victoria and Western Australia earlier this year negotiated a wages deal with Mayne that delivers wage increases of up to 17% over the next 3 years. All up 50 Australian hospitals are likely to be sold in Australia. State Government approval will be required for six collocated hospitals and three privatised public hospitals. The other 41 are: NSW:Castlecrag Private Hospital, Christo Road Private Hospital, Kareena Private Hospital, Lady Davidson Hospital, Lingard Private Hospital, Macarthur Private Hospital, Nepean Private Hospital, North Gosford Private Hospital, Nowra Private Hospital, Orange Dudley Private Hospital, Port Macquarie Private Hospital, Strathfield Private Hospital, St George Private Hospital, The Hills Private Hospital, Warners Bay Private Hospital. Victoria: The Avenue Hospital, Linacre (Bayside) Private Hospital, Cotham Private Hospital, John Fawkner Private Hospital, Knox Private Hospital, Masada Private Hospital, Como (Mentone) Private Hospital, Mount Waverley Private Hospital, Ringwood Private Hospital, Shepparton Private Hospital, Victorian Rehabilitation Centre (eastern and northern Melbourne), Wangaratta Private Hospital, Warringal Private Hospital Western Australia:Attadale Private Hospital, Glengarry Private Hospital, Mount Hospital.
