Members urged to register for tsunami relief effort

04 January 2005

The HSU has urged health professionals who are willing to travel to Asia to help in the relief operation to register with the federal government.

HSU national secretary Craig Thomson said it was important that doctors, nurses and other staff looking to assist took part in a co-ordinated effort.

"So much needs to be done across the region that we need to make sure that the relief operation is as well-organised as possible," he said.

"The HSU has been advised that anybody who wants to contribute directly should ring the national tsunami hotline on 1800 057111 to register their details."

The HSU is currently considering how it can best contribute to the relief effort.

Members who have suggestions or whose families have been directly affected by the tsunami disaster are encouraged to contact us.

Already the Australian union aid agency Union Aid Abroad- APHEDA is raising money for a special program in Sri Lanka.
