Mental Health Staff Win in Victoria

Members of the Victorian mental health branch of the Health Services Union have endorsed a new enterprise agreement which delivers pay rises and extra staffing.

The agreement comes at the end of a successful campaign by members of the Health and Community Services Union.

Some of the key features of the new agreement include:

  • 12% wage increase over 3.5 years;
  • Access to an additional week of leave for Allied Health, PSEN's, PSO's and Non-direct Care;
  • New annual increments between $13.00 and $30.00 a week;
  • 52 new positions to improve staffing, reduce community caseloads and provide clinical education in the workplace;
  • Minimum staffing requirements in in-patient units;
  • Funding for 440 post graduate scholarships;
  • Funding for 50 post basic places for PSEN's;
  • 180 places for new graduate nurses;
  • Improved study leave, including two weeks clinical placement leave;
  • Mandatory training requirements;
  • Additional two weeks paid maternity and adoption leave.

HACSU secretary Lloyd Williams said: "I would like to congratulate all HACSU on the consistent, strong and resolute stanceyou took to deliver further improvements to Victoria's mental health services, the workforce and, ultimately, the patients we care for."
